Galadriel's Mirror Dress

One of my best friends looks exactly like a teenage version of Galadriel. I mean, it is almost scary it is so close. So, for the Return of the King premiere, she wanted to dress up as Galadriel. We chose the Mirror Dress because it was so beautiful. The dress is actually two layers: a white satin/crepe layer with a lace overlay. The sleeves are the same lace but without the crepe underdress. The white crepe was a dollar-a-yard (Wal-Mart again) and the lace was about $2 a yard. This dress was pretty straight forward and would have been simple to make had it not been for the lace covering. I had to cut out each piece from the crepe and the lace. Then I had to make sure that the lace was exactly the same pattern as the crepe. Next I had to baste the lace to each piece before sewing and that took forever. We muslined the sleeves out of an ugly fabric before we cut into our lace. I cut out and sewed the belt and then my friend hand-beaded the waist part. It took her a long time but it looked awesome.

And here is the dress that my friend wore to the premiere...

One of my friends made her a beautiful lace cape. Though Galadriel didn't wear a lace cape like this one, I think it compliments her dress perfectly.
